Rationale:
Site visits are expensive in both time and money.  The impression you create visiting potential suppliers will influence the way the negotiations will go and the ongoing relationship will develop.  The purpose of this course is to enable participants to conduct site visits that support the strategic alliance process professionally.

The course content is presented in a workshop format through instructor-led discussions, small-group exercises, and role-play activities.  Participants will schedule and prepare for the upcoming site visits in the strategic sourcing project.

Attendees:
Anyone who will perform site visits during the strategic alliance process will benefit from this course.  Also, anyone who has an interest in the outcome of the strategic alliance should attend to ensure all interests are considered on the site visit should attend as they will add great value to the site visit teams.

Timing:
This course should works well for any organization that consistently conducts site visits of both internal and outside facilities.  Within the strategic alliance process the workshop is held after profiles are returned and in preparation for negotiations.

The workshop can be customized and held before any other fact-finding visits the organization is about to undertake.

  • Explain how site visits support the strategic alliance process.
  • Prepare a consistent introductory message.
  • Prepare questions and an agenda for a site visit.
  • Practice efficient and effective interviewing techniques.
  • Plan for a plant tour to gain and verify valuable information.
  • Plan for consistent documentation to communicate what they find.
