Introduction to Access

Class Size: 6-10 Participants

Length: 2-3 Days

Rationale:
Databases are the most efficient and effective means of storing, managing and using large amounts of data.  The purchasing function, among others, is responsible for huge amounts of data based on invoices, bills of lading and accounts payable.  Although many people learn spreadsheets e.g. Excel and use them successfully databases are far more flexible and once mastered are essential to the effective management of data.

Attendees:
The course is intended for anyone who will be involved in maintaining data within the purchasing function once a strategic sourcing project is handed over by Gibson Consulting.  It is also useful for anyone responsible for managing large amounts of data.

Timing:
This course should be taken prior to supplier selection so that the individuals who receive the data at handover from Gibson Consulting are capable of using it to successfully manage the supplier relationship.

Objectives:
After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define a database
  • Design a simple database
  • Create a table
  • Input data
  • Create queries, reports and forms
